FAQs

Answers to the questions we’re asked most about container repair, refurbishment, testing and spares.

Frequently asked questions

Which containers can you repair and refurbish?

All makes and models of waste and recycling container: wheeled containers from 660 litres upwards, rear and front end loaders, RoRos, packers, skips and recycling banks. Our mobile crews can also work on shipping containers.

Should I choose factory refurbishment or a mobile repair?

Mobile crews handle repairs and refurbishment on your site, which suits containers that don’t need a full rebuild. Heavily damaged containers, or those needing shot blasting, painting or heavy fabrication, come to our Cheshire plant. We’ll advise on the most cost-effective option.

How much can refurbishment save?

Bringing a container back into service costs a fraction of buying new. Over the years our customers have saved more than £271 million by refurbishing rather than replacing.

Are repaired containers tested?

Yes. Our in-house testing facility checks repairs and modifications to wheeled containers against BS EN 840 parts 1 to 6, and parts are certified to BS EN 840 where appropriate.

Do you collect and deliver containers?

Yes. Our own fleet collects containers from, and returns them to, depots across the country, and our 5-acre site can hold large stocks for roll-outs.

What happens to containers that can’t be repaired?

Around 95% of containers we receive go back into service. The rest are stripped for parts, remanufactured or recycled wherever possible, and we run a national lid recycling scheme.

Do you supply spare parts?

Yes: lids, castors and wheels, locks and keys, hinge rods and other container parts, supplied or fitted. Many are also available to order online from the IEG store.

Do you work with local authorities?

Yes. We work with councils, waste and recycling companies and businesses across the UK, and we’re proud to work with public sector organisations including ESPO, YPO and Scotland Excel.
